Identify Your Power Hour | Triple Efficiency with Laser Focus

Confidence can be built and strengthened-26

2013-06-30 Chalene 1390This show is the 3rd episode of a 3 part series on how to become more laser focused!  If you haven’t listened to the first two episodes: CLICK HERE to listen to part 1 and CLICK HERE to listen to part 2.

We all pretty much have to go online at some point for our job. This unfortunately can set you up for disaster because there are constant flashing lights, advertising, retargeting that’s occurring to distract you from your goal! Whenever possible, get off line when you are trying to complete a task!

There are 2 key things to becoming more focused:
1. Eliminate or minimize distractions
2. Get in touch with when your brain is able to focus the best

Some do their best work early in the am, and for some it’s late at night. What’s important is figuring out what time is best for YOU. I’m not going to tell you what time of day to focus, I want you to hone in on when you feel really creative.

Next I want to break this down even further. What hour of the day do you feel the most productive? We tend to have one specific hour in the day that just-feels-right. It’s the hour that we can get an incredible amount of work accomplished and we feel super creative! Now… I want you to consciously dedicate that hour to your MOST important goal and most important task. Don’t throw that hour down the drain by surfing the Internet or watching television.

IMG_1612I personally like to work in 45-minute increments. So I dedicate 45 minutes to a task, then I take a 15-minute break to let my brain regroup. Research has supported this pattern. Data collected from workers computers, found that people who worked for 52-minutes then took a 17-minute break, were the highest performing individuals.

So here’s the deal, I want you to use your phone to help you with this. Set reminders and plan your breaks. When that alarm goes off, I want you to stop what you’re doing and do something other than work. Take a walk, get on a foam roller, do hand stands… whatever! A great website that helps me with this is www.ifttt.com which you can use to send alarms to your phone.

Next I want you to create a focused declaration. A declaration of what you’re not going to do during these times of productivity. You need to do everything in your power to eliminate as many distractions as possible!

My last and final tip, write this phrase down – “I am going to focus on 1 thing and 1 thing only for the next 45 minutes.” Right from the get-go, you will set your brain up to focus.

It’s critical to make these changes.
