How to Create A Killer Freemium from Video and Your Periscope

SMART banner

Listen: The most important thing I ever did for my business was to create my 30-Day Push series. I’m not kidding. Simply by recording 30 videos in front of my computer, I was able to generate a freemium that generates 100,000 to 150,000 emails a year.

You NEED an email list for your business, so that’s what we’re talking about today. In this episode, I answer some frequently asked questions about creating video freemium. Make sure you follow me on Twitter so you can ask me questions live while I’m on Periscope!

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about creating video freemiums:

How does somebody figure out their topic?

Ask your friends. The people around you will recognize your strengths and experiences better than you. So, just ask them: “Hey! What about my experiences do you find interesting and I could share with others?”

Does it have to relate to your business?

No. People are going to connect with you first, so focus on building that relationship. The rest will come later.

How do I figure out how to break down a larger concept into smaller chunks?

Ask yourself, “What could I teach in 5-10 short tips?” Each tip becomes a short video.

Should I record in advance or do it live on Periscope?

You should do trial runs on Periscope because it’s interactive and the people watching will provide you with follow-up questions that can help you clarify and refine. Then, take those ideas and apply them to your final product.

What should your intro include?

Create a quick intro that gives you credibility within the topic you’re discussing. While you might be an expert in other areas, you need to tailor your intro to the specific audience you’re trying to reach.

What if you don’t feel like an expert?

You don’t have to be THE expert to create a course. Just remember that you are the expert on how YOU do something and people will resonate with you and your experiences.

How long should your videos be?

Short. Get to the point and be done.

Can I actually use Periscope to record?

Recording live has a certain energy to it and if you want to use your Periscope broadcasts as part of your freemium, then I’d recommend getting a camera and setting it up directly next to your device that is broadcasting on Periscope. You should use a microphone and, while you can use special lighting, daylight works really well.

How do you get people excited for your next video?

Your first video needs to be your story: How did you get here? At the end of that video, you give them one solution and preview what problem you’re going to solve in the next video.

What background should I use?

This is up to you, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You can use clean and quiet portions of your home – you’ll create a connection with your audience and they’ll want to keep coming back.

How should I end my videos?

You need to include a call-to-action; give your viewers an opportunity to DO something. For example, have them make a list that will relate to the next question.

Do I need music or fancy graphics?

Nope. People want content. If you use music, make sure it’s royalty-free.

How do you remember what you’re going to say?

Write out some BRIEF notes and then place them below the camera. Once you give your first tip, then smile and freeze. You can then edit out the silence and review the next tip before moving on.

How do you get over being self-conscious?

You just have to get started. The more you do it, the quicker you’ll get over it. So, just press record and keep going!

Is a video or a series of videos enough for a freemium?

Of course! You’re not just getting a report or a checklist, you’re getting to spend time with me! That creates some wonderful relationships.

How do I promote my freemium?

Once you’ve got your freemium, then you tag everything you do on social media with it. It’s that simple.
