How to Organize Your Brain – Creating LASER Focus

This episode is all about organizing your brain; how to take the science behind how the brain works, and how to use that to turbo charge your focus and efficiency.

Did you know that since 1986, we now take in 5 times the amount of data a day! This is the equivalent of reading 7 newspapers cover to cover. It’s no wonder it’s so hard for us to remember the simplest task.

The negative side to this is our brains aren’t equipped with what it takes to handle all of this extra data. From a neuroscience standpoint, multitasking is not doable. Our brains literally cannot multitask; they actually toggle back and forth from one task to another.

Primitive man only had a few things they had to focus on. But now a days we have hundreds! Between all of the passwords, social media sites, emails, billboards, etc that you are called to pay attention to throughout the day… our brains simply are on overload.Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 12.05.53 PM

Multitasking has been found to increase your production of your bodies stress hormone. When you force your brain to toggle back and forth, you naturally start to feel stressed out and anxious.

When we feel really overloaded, the first thing you have to do is give your brain energy through glucose. The first choice is sugar, which isn’t always the best way to go. A better way to deliver that energy system to the brain is sleep. So sometimes that means taking a nap. Another way our brain delivers glucose is through daydreaming or mind wandering. Meditation is also a great approach, or walking without music.

In part two of this episode, I’m going to give you all of my go to tips for how to create laser-focused surroundings.
