Take Time Off or Vacation Stress

Build Your Tribe
EP. 222

Thank you for joining and trusting me today on Build Your Tribe. If you’re new here, you should know that long long ago I used to be a workaholic. Vacations didn’t sound fun. Working was my drug.

I am no longer that person. I will say I am a work in progress still, but I definitely have taken some big steps. I’d like to share with you how I was able to find balance and restore a peace of mind when traveling and when returning back home after my travels.

I will NEVER forget how overwhelmed I felt when traveling a few years ago. I recorded this episode on the last day of a ten day trip, and I felt simply amazing. Not only have I been able to find a balance of working while traveling in a relaxed way, but I have also learned to become excited to return home and continue with my lifestyle routine. I felt refreshed and overwhelmed with gratitude.

I’m going to share with you some strategies to help you feel the same way when you are traveling.

-Before you depart for your travels, understand what makes you feel grounded when you’re not on vacation. For me… that’s my morning routine. There are certain things that allow me to feel good, and that for me includes waking up early and scheduling out my goals for the day. Make a list of things that allow you feel grounded at home and plan those things out beforehand.

-Exercise. Exercise is what keeps me going. It helps me feel alive. Personally, I need exercise to help me look and feel my best. There are also so many memories you can make while being athletic, whether you decide to go on a scenic run on your own or find a studio and meet new, friendly faces.

-Alone time is essential. If you are an introvert (at all), you may need to provide yourself with a little bit of down time when traveling.

-Have important conversations with other individuals BEFORE you go on vacation. It may not seem appealing to do this, but if you hold it off until you get back… you will dread returning home.

-Honor your boundaries and stick to them. No matter what you set your boundaries to be when traveling, you must learn to compromise.

-Have a plan. You’ll be able to live to your greatest potential if you set intentions for your day. Don’t waste away your days… be smart and at least create a rough outline of your day or week.

-You want to feel good when you’re on vacation. Therefore, you should not feel obligated to drink each night of your trip or eat junk food. Try your best to shadow your eating habits at home, don’t undo all the hard work you put in to looking fit for your trip.

-You don’t have to completely unplug if you feel that may overwhelm you. Just dedicate an hour or so to each day to get some work done. Plan and think ahead so that you can keep up with some work but still make the most of your vacation without the stress.

I hope you enjoyed this quick episode. Listen in for more talk on the tips I mentioned above. Remember, you should never feel like you need to take a vacation from your vacation.
