Saying “Sorry” to someone can be the hardest thing to do – especially when we don’t see eye-to-eye with them about what we should be sorry about. However, this isn’t about being “right” or “wrong”, it’s about understanding and validating the feelings of the people you love. In this episode, Chalene talks you through a process of creating empathy for those around you and then she offers some tips on how best to respond in potentially tense situations. In the end, it’s all about loving and respecting the people around you and just taking a step back to understand the situation from their eyes.
It’s so important to acknowledge someone else’s feelings, even if you don’t fully agree with them. When someone shares their feelings with you, instead of getting defensive, instead of trying to fix it or dismiss it, just listen. Don’t make it about you. Make it about them. Put yourself in their shoes. Their feelings are valid even if they may not be valid to you. You can’t deny WHY someone is feeling the way they are. The best thing we can go is to come from a place of empathy and just listen. I know its hard to just listen when you start to feel defensive. But it’s so important that the other person is allowed to have a voice.
