I’m not one to usually voice (or write) my thoughts on business / social media predictions and forecasts, if you will. But today, I’d like to dedicate this blog to something I firmly believe is about to arrive early in 2021. And that would be… 60 second reels.
It’s no secret that right now Reels are the hottest feature of Instagram — whether you have 100 followers or 100,000 followers.
Instagram Reels are what’s working across the board for any account. For the people I work with, we are seeing Reels outperform every other kind of post on Instagram. It doesn’t matter if it’s:
- IGTVs
- Carousels
- Plain old pictures on your Instagram feed
This leads Brock, my son, and I — founders of InstaClubHub — to discern that Instagram is going to continue to:
- Promote Reels
- Help out the people who are using Reels
- Use Reels as a way for you to reach new people through your Instagram account
- Introduce 60-second options!
If TikTok Does It
Another reason Instagram will surely offer 60-second Reels is that TikTok already allows you to record 60-second videos. So, of course, common sense would suggest that — if Reels are, indeed, inspired by TikTok — they would eventually follow suit and provide you those additional minutes, as well.
Rumors Have Started, Anyway
Now, it’s also rumored that some accounts on Instagram have already begun the testing phase of using 60-second Reels. I mean, how much more of a clue do you need, right? Hey, I never said I was Nostradamus or anything.
If other accounts on Instagram are getting certain features as a test, it’s quite likely the rest of us are to follow soon.
Remember, just like every other social media platform, Instagram wants to keep us on their platform for as long as possible.
Hence, naturally, a 60-second Reel is going to keep us on IG for longer than what they currently offer…15 seconds or 30 seconds for a Reel.
