Not everyone has their own podcast today, but it seems like it’s heading in that direction. Which, I think, is a good thing. All of us have a story and a way in which we’re here to serve. The problem is, though, so many people think starting a podcast has to be this big production.
Newsflash: It doesn’t need to be! You can start a podcast on your iPhone with no equipment necessary. No joke.
My motto has always been to make it messy. And if you think about the fact that you must…
- Have a microphone
- Figure out how to use software
- Learn how to upload
- Edit it
…it’s just going to slow you down.
Ain’t nobody got time for that! Especially when you’re new to the game.
Some tips to create your first podcasts (i.e., audio recordings) from your iPhone and your iPhone alone:
Tip #1: Create a makeshift at-home sound studio
Sit on your bed or on the floor. Prop your iPhone between 2 pillows so you don’t have to hold it (it should sit around the same level as your face). Place a blanket over you and the phone.
Welcome to your new sound proof recording studio!
Tip #2: Use your pre-installed voice app
Your iPhone (or droid) comes with a recording audio app. On the iPhone it’s called Voice Memos. That said, there are a plethora of options you can download for free. You don’t need an external microphone, people! Just speak 8 to 10 inches away from your phone’s internal mic.
Tip #3: Upload your recording
Send your recording to your laptop / desktop via AirDrop, email, iMessage, etc.
And now… all the work you’re responsible for is complete!
You just needed to focus on what matters most — your authentic self as you told your story.
There is absolutely no reason to get fancy, especially in the early stages of your podcasting life.
However, there is a crucial next step that will ensure your new podcast is finished and beautiful.
And it doesn’t depend on YOU.
It’s easy and can be super inexpensive. For the details on that, check out the episode of Build Your Tribe below:
