One-on-one coaching has many pros and cons — for both the coach and the student / client. Today, I’d like to focus on the benefits of this particular type of coaching, from the coach’s perspective.
Benefit #1: Great option for those just getting started in the expert space.
Calling yourself an expert or a leader (or someone who’s super knowledgeable in any given area) can be scary and intimidating at first. When launching or selling something, like…
- Academies
- Courses
- Podcasts
- Membership sites
…you want to have some experience and credibility. Something to point out and say,
“Look, I’ve worked with X many clients and took them from A to B!”
Therefore, before you can teach hundreds or thousands in the group model, it’s easier and more beneficial for you to start with one-on-one coaching.
Even if it’s just pro bono or super inexpensive. Not to mention, you’ll learn a ton as a one-on-one coach. Hence, it’s a great way to grow within your expertise.
Benefit #2: Great option for those who don’t have a large following / email list / ad budget.
To earn profits and make a large enough income to see the benefit from launching a course or e-book, it might make more sense for you to go the hyper-personal route. Aiming for really high quality customers — through direct coaching — is often the way to go.
Benefit #3: Great option for those who want to create a very closely bonded, very accountable experience with clients / students.
There are some fields and industries where creating a super tight relationship does lead to better results.
And those better results, of course, can lead to more testimonials and better credibility for you in the future.
Benefit #4: Great option for those who thrive off other people’s energy.
When you truly light up in a one-on-one or small group setting and live for the opportunity to see “aha!” moments up close and personal.
Benefit #5: Great option for those who specialize in something very niche.
The type of work or coaching you do is very high level and very specific. That is how you truly serve your client. You’re not teaching a general concept.
Benefit #6: Great option for those who want to scale their business.
Using the one-on-one experience to see predictable patterns will help you realize that there’s a need for a more affordable solution for customers. Which, in turn, could allow you to scale your business.
