Should You Share Personal Posts on Your Brand’s Instagram?

share this:

Whether you’re a brand, an influencer, a business, or someone building authority on Instagram, it’s hard to know how much you should reveal about your personal life. It can feel like an impossible decision: Do I share photos of my family and friends? Or does that cross the line? Should I censor my political views? What about my faith? How far outside of my niche should I go?!

Sharing Personal Posts Brand's Instagram

Today, I’ll cover whether or not businesses should share personal posts on their brand’s Instagram account.

But if I may, before we go forward, I will add this one caveat:

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question.

Because there are exceptions to every rule, I do want to encourage you to test all the things on your account. That said, what you’ll find below is based off of thousands of hours of…

  • group coaching
  • live trainings
  • creating courses
  • recording podcasts

…all on the subject of Instagram.

Nonetheless, this is my opinion — at the end of the day. I just ask that you read this blog with an open mind and the intent to test out everything!

And if it works for your account, great! If not, that’s also great because that means you’re just one step closer to finding out what benefits your IG.

  • Reels
  • pictures
  • general videos

…should not be about your personal life. These features will primarily focus on your niche.

That said, from time to time, you can incorporate your personal life into your niche, too! Perhaps personal anecdotes from the behind-the-scenes aspect of your life do, in fact, relate to your niche. In that case, feel free to sporadically drizzle those in.

However, for the most part, you’ll want to keep your Instagram feed focused on your biz/brand rather than anything personal.

Instagram Stories and Lives.

This is where I really think you can — and I would go so far as to say… should! — share your personal life.
